Central agriturismo for young and old
I arrived at this agriturismo one sunny autumn morning, to be warmly welcomed by the receptionist, with whom I had been in touch for a couple of weeks prior to my visit.
The air was fresh yet pleasantly warm and, in beautiful weather, I relished all that this place has to offer. The estate is surrounded by vineyards, hills and olive trees from which high-quality olive oil is made. The oil is also used in the restaurant of the Borgo, and can be purchased by the guests.
The agriturismo is situated in a quiet location, yet with the main Tuscan attractions within easy reach: San Gimignano and Volterra are less than 30 minutes away by car, Siena only 40 minutes, and Florence can be reached in one-and-a-half hours. The road to the agriturismo is paved, so there’s no need to worry about dust on the car.
After your arrival, you will be escorted to the Villa or the Borgo, depending on which apartment you have booked. The buildings are about 600 metres apart, and are connected by an internal private road. This road is for both cars or people on foot, and is only used by the guests of the agriturismo. The breakfast room, restaurant and padel courts are open for use to guests of the Borgo and the Villa alike.
The Villa
At the Villa of the agriturismo are the reception and a small Osteria, next to the pool, where you can enjoy breakfast or a light lunch from Tuesday to Friday. Those who stay in the Borgo and wish to have breakfast or a light lunch can enjoy it also here. In this case you will have to walk from the Borgo to the Villa, about 600 meters along the internal road: but isn’t a beautiful early-morning walk a delightful way to start the day? Breakfast is extra and you need to book it in advance at reception. There is also a small church in this part of the agriturismo, which is sometimes used for weddings and other events.
Swimming pool, play pool and playground
There is a swimming pool in the Villa’s enormous garden (for hygienic reasons, it is compulsory to wear a bathing cap, which you can buy at the reception) lined with recliners and sun beds from which you can enjoy the finest views of the hills. About 100 metres from the pool (and not visible from it) is a zone that is specially equipped for children, with a shallow children’s pool, a table tennis table, a table football table, and a small playground with wooden play equipment such as swings and a slide. Your children will love to spend lots of time here, playing with their newly made holiday friends!
The restaurant at the Borgo (600 metres from the Villa) is the perfect place to gorge on traditional Tuscan food made from home-grown ingredients. The Villa’s guests are of course welcome too, and in summer you can choose to have dinner or lunch ‘al fresco’, on the restaurant’s beautiful terrace.
The apartments in the Villa
The Villa houses bilocale apartments with one bedroom and sofa-bed in the living room, trilocale apartments with two bedrooms, and quadrilocale apartments with three bedrooms. The apartments are stylishly furnished in a classical style. They are all equipped with air conditioning, a kitchen with fridge and oven, and television, and each has its own outdoor space with table and chairs. The apartments on the ground floor have a terrace or seating area in the garden. Apartments on the first floor have an outdoor seating area near the entrance to the apartment, with table and chairs.
The Borgo
Only 600 metres from the Villa is the Borgo, a small, typically Tuscan fortified hamlet with a small square, restaurant, and beautiful views.
Two swimming pools, padel courts and a restaurant
The Borgo has two swimming pools: a large one and a smaller shallow one for children. In front of the swimming pool is the restaurant, where traditional Tuscan specialities are served. As the restaurant is also popular with the locals, it is wise to book a table in advance! The restaurant is open every evening (except on Mondays) and on Saturday and Sundays also for lunch. It has a beautiful covered veranda where guests can dine outside in summer.
Padel enthusiasts have two outdoor courts at their disposal. Rackets can be obtained at the reception, where the courts must also be booked.
The Villa’s breakfast room, the restaurant and padel courts are available to guests of the Borgo and the Villa. For reasons of hygiene, bathing caps are compulsory, both in the swimming pool and the play pool.
The apartments in the Borgo
The Borgo too has bilocale apartments with one bedroom and a sofa-bed in the living room. Trilocale apartments with two bedrooms, and Quadrilocale apartments with three bedrooms. The apartments are furnished in a classical style, and provided with air conditioning, kitchen with fridge and oven, television and an outdoor space. Apartments on the first floor have their own terrace or seating area (at about 30 metres from the apartment). The ground-floor apartments have an individual terrace or outdoor seating area near the apartment.
In short
This agriturismo in the heart of Tuscany is a delightful place for both children and adults. Children can play to their heart’s content, and adults can relax by the pool, play a game of padel, and enjoy dinner or a glass of wine in the restaurant or a light lunch remaining at the property.
